Hi guys, today I want to talk you about one of the books that I liked the most. Bought for a modest price on Libraccio was definitely one of the affairs of my life. Edmund White's Chaos: a Novella and Stories. A masterpiece of introspection and modern criticism.
The book is composed by four tales, it's written very well, fluid and rich of food of thought. Another thing that deserves attention is how the writer plays with the languages, we can find Italian or French language in short excerpts here and there for the opera.
The first story is Chaos, and that's what made me lose my head. There is definitely a nihilist in all of Jack's life idea (the protagonist of the tale with HIV), seasoned with the atmosphere of New York's most romantically decadent. A beautiful story full of detail that builds the character at 360 °. Especially in this story White alternates rude sex descriptions with opinions and descriptions of emotional states that make us very fond of Jack, who in the depths is an old mondan alone.
The other tales are beautiful and well written, set in the world: the United States, Greece, Turkey. "Chaos" and "Recorder Time" (the last tale) are the ones I most liked.
Why read this book? Beacause it's a interesting book under many profiles: artistic, social and literary.

For example, the theme of ignorance around the HIV virus is discussed, how this could easily become a factor of social isolation; it talk about music and cinema, particularly in the last tale .
Issues such as old age, dissatisfaction, drugs, sex, fear of a mediocre life, fear of having played the ultimate chance of happiness, and the theme of happiness associated with their own realization.
In short, read it because it's beautiful and its worth it really.

Quello che vado a raccontarvi oggi è uno dei libri che più mi è piaciuto. Comprato per un modico prezzo su libraccio è stato sicuramente uno degli affari della mia vita. Caos di Edmund White. Un capolavoro di introspezione e critica moderna.
Il libro è composto da quattro racconti, è molto ben scritto, fluido e ricco di spunti di riflessione. Un'altra cosa che merita attenzione è come lo scrittore giochi con le lingue, troviamo francese inglese e italiano in brevi stralci qua e là per l'opera.
Il primo racconto è Caos, ed è quello che mi ha fatto perdere la testa. C'è sicuramente un alone nichilista in tutta l'idea di vita di Jack (il protagonista del racconto affetto da HIV), condita con l'atmosfera della New York più romanticamente decadente. Un racconto bellissimo pieno di particolare che costruiscono il personaggio a 360°. Sopratutto in questo racconto White alterna descrizioni di rude sesso con opinioni e descrizioni di stati emotivi da farci affezionare moltissimo a Jack, il quale nel profondo non è altro che un vecchio mondano solo.
Anche le altre storie sono molto belle, e scritte bene, ambientate in tutto il mondo: Stati Uniti, Grecia, Turchia.
"Caos" e "L'epoca dei dischi" (l'ultimo racconto) sono quelle che mi sono più piaciute.
Perché leggerlo? Perché è un libro interessante sotto molti profili: artistico, sociale e letterario.
Viene trattato ad esempio il tema dell'ignoranza che ruotava intorno al virus del HIV, di come questo poteva diventare facilmente un fattore di isolamento sociale; si parla di musica e cinema, in particolare nell'ultimo racconto "Recorder Time". Si affrontano temi come: la vecchiaia, l'insoddisfazione, la droga, il sesso la paura di una vita mediocre, la paura di essersi ormai giocati anche l'ultima chance di felicità, e il tema della felicità stessa connessa con la propria realizzazione .
Insomma, leggetelo perché è bellissimo e ne vale veramente la pena.
